Not much time this morning but I do want to point out that "plate
tectonics" don't obviate the hand of God, A pantheist would argue
that plate tectonics ARE the hand of God.
[Arlo]
Of course. But the fallacy is still apparent in that "plate
tectonics" gives us the ability to predict and ameliorate the effects
of geological forces. This would leave the theist with no recourse
but to say that "man" has the ability to guide, or correct, the "hand
of god". Of course to THIS you could bed Platt's prostitute and claim
that God is manipulating man into discovering and acting upon "plate
tectonics", but that gets you right back into his bizarro
super-marionation world, certainly not a world I'd want to be. In
other words, the "back up" is only momentarily satisfying, and even
though only if you don't really think about it at all.
Hi Arlo,
You are treating God like some kind of human, like a big brain in the sky. If this
is your interpretation of God, then I am with you being against it. This is
like a taught Christian God, which doesn't stand up to any reasonable
questioning. You shouldn't believe in such a God any more than I.
That is some kind of Church manipulation, in the same way that
science can be manipulative. Think beyond the fairy tales, you may find
something, which you may wish to call God.
