In the book, Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins, a Jew and a Palestinian
open a deli across the street from the UN and call it "Isaac and Ishmael's"
- just asking for trouble!


I've always wondered the Muslim view of a particular piece of scripture:


And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou [art] with child, and
shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath
heard thy affliction.

And he will be a wild man; his hand [will be] against every man, and every
man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his
brethren.

Gen 16:12

Does Islam read this text with resignation to destiny?  Discouragement
against God's pronouncement?  Justification for violence?  Reverence for
prophecy which seems to have come true?
