But from this self interest, they serve the whole in a dance of negotiation
which is productive of the bigger picture and life itself.  She says the
soviet system failed to encourage this self interest of their cells, and
thus collapsed; and the west fails to encourage the communal interest and is
headed for collapse.

You need both for life.

A very Roycean polemic.  I recommend her highly.
