Given this line of reasoning, I have to say with all due
respect that the quandary you've constructed in your reply
above is what actually represents the "fake" choice. We
have no choice in the Pirsigian Universe about Static versus
Dynamic Quality.

Matt:
I apologize, I must have completely misunderstood you when
you stated, "given a choice, would you prefer to access the
representation or the thing represented." I assumed in
interpreting the statement and what it was posing, that you
were suggesting that the choice was between the first half
of the disjunct ("the representation") and the second half of
the disjunct ("the thing represented"). And that your
correction only had to do with what the two halves of the
disjunct stood for.

But it appears that's not what you meant (though I'm having
a tough time construing what it was you were saying at that
time now).

You are correct--once you adopt Pirsig's vocabulary, you
adopt the "Static versus Dynamic Quality" division. I thought
you were talking about a choice internal to Pirsig's vocabulary,
which is the only place the "quandary" I outlined would make
sense. You were apparently suggesting a choice between
Pirsig's vocabulary and not-Pirsig's vocabulary. Due apologies.

Matt
