My interest in physics is mostly so I can understand Commander Data in STNG.
I want to have a vague idea of what Geordi is doing when he recalibrates the
deflector array and why anyone would want to generate a tachyon pulse.

Tachyon partikels do not exist , nor they never did. The tachyon(hypothetikal)partikle model
is a mathematikal/theoretical model , just to explain some anomaly's in Quantum-physiks.
(as example the famous c/P violation)...disproportion between matter and anti-matter in the early
universe.It is nowedays commonly accepted that the LHC accelerator will deliver proof for the violation,
and if not, Fermilab will probably do so, they are very close there.when they do than E=MC2 will need fine-tuning
as in E=ALMOST MC2, there seems to be a little discrepancy.--
LHC-b is very near to it.
the model tries to connect the quantummodel to the stringtheory.
BUT, ; as it is hypothetical, and to fit in the model,the tachyon has properties that are impossible
to posses in the E=MC2 model, the properties are in violation with the max speed of light/energy.
You can read this as the impossibility to observe the virtual Tachyon; or to prove, as going faster than light
it cannot be observed. it can only exist in a mathematikal model.
In common language, the tachyon, as virtual partikle, is predicted to have a speed that is a lot higher
than the light/energyspeed.
since nothing can go faster than light/energy ( postulate Einstein), the partikle would simply outrun itself,
past his own existence/creation. And exactly this is how it is superposed towards the stringtheory.
Have to say it , Krimel , you are clever and sharp.
some of my examples are , in fact , simplifications to explain something, like for example "the universe"
This is a simplified example, to make a point.
you are clever enough to look thrue this example, okay.
Since "HUBBLE"---all proof is there to say for fact , there are millions of galaxy's, black hole's ,supernova's,planets....
they all have gravity's, masses, energy's of their own, and physikal laws that are valid here on earth .....are only one reality,
they are not to be applied on to a black hole so to speak.
So-multiple universe's, with their own gravitational laws.Supernovas have their own, so have black hole's,grey hole's ,
white hole's (yes they exist)
If you are having a good interest in this matters, you should look it up, hubble deep field is a good start.
I have to end this mail , for today, but this is only a reflection on "Tachyon", i will reflect on the simplified model i posted earlier

Ps, i'm not an pyshiskus, i work in a factory, i'm a common guy.
my specialisation is not physiks,... in fact .But laws of optical systems, lenses, optics,lasers, masers, mirrors,
pixel interpolation/extrapolation on ccd's , kristaloptics, scintillografics, and the way of lightrays in optical systems.
physiks is merely a spin-off from these ...
