Isnt self/other another way of saying subject/object?

Where do I place the S/O distinction on the biological level?  I think it's 
Mary and I haven't yet figured out her assertion. All levels have an 
"self/not self" arrangement that their respective immune systems are 
built on, but biology's is definitely not S/O-ish, rather "this body/foreign 
body.
