DM and all:
David M said to dmb:
Your argument seems to amount to: dogmatism is bad, theist are dogmatic (if
they are not they can't be theists), therefore theism is bad. This argument
is utterly unconvincing and flawed. You quote Wilber who has a particular
take on the history of thought, he therefore takes a simplified version of
history, you really ought to go and read some real historians for a less
conceptualised and more complex and accurate version of the history of
thought. I feel that your views here simply reflect a lack of experience,
knowledge and understanding of what you are discussing. You want to
draw nice neat lines when real life/history is more complex. I for one don't
buy it.
dmb says:
This isn't criticism. Its just name-calling. And as a matter of fact, I was
a history major in college with and emphasis on Western Intellectual
history, so the level of my ignorance is relative. In any case, these
insults beg the question. Are my assertions valid? If you think not, then
please explain. And I don't think I need to make an "argument" that dogma is
bad. That would be too condesending even for me! My argument in this thread
is about the importance of being a Christ rather than worshiping one. Yes,
this defies dogma. It is the ultimately heresy. And I happen to think its
the truth. That's my problem with theism and my motive for offering a
mystical alternative it. I'd be happy to discuss it with you DM, but you're
gonna have to be much more specific. These vague and naked condemnations
don't give me anything to which I can reply. Maybe you'll take a look at
today's big bundle of quotes and then tell me if you don't see what I'm
getting at.
Thanks
dmb
P.S. You made me cry, you big meany.
