In a private conversation recently I found myself saying that I observe more
disagreement than agreement about what the Methaphysics of Quality is and
is not. And then it occurred to me. The Metaphysics of Quality is static. It's
a static pattern of intellectual quality. So there shouldn't be any question
about what it is and what it is not. But questions abound. What is it about
the Metaphysics of Quality that both fascinates and frustrates?

What fascinates me about the Metaphysics of Quality is what it promises; a
non-technical, simple explanation of the source and meaning of value and
morality. What frustrates me about the Metaphysics of Quality is its
ambiguity. On the one hand it is fundamentally comprehensive. On the
other hand, to the newcomers and novices, it's as clear as mud.

And I asked myself what other things have these qualities.

Religion!

An insane delusion can't be held by a group at all. A person
isn't considered insane if there are a number of people who
believe the same way. Insanity isn't supposed to be a
communicable disease. If one other person starts to believe
him, or maybe two or three, then it's a religion.
