For those who read my previous answer:
[cut]
2. Fundamentalism, Islam Judaism or Christianity comes about not as a
response to eternal influences but rather as a response to internal ones.
Muslim fundamentalism is not in response to the west but rather modern
Islam that is trying to emerge in the East. Fundamental Christianity in
the US is a knee jerk reaction to The Deism of the founding fathers of
this country and the constitution itself.
( recommended reading here is Karen Armstrong's 1) the History of God 2)
the battle for God.

the second line should read EXTERNAL not eternal. I should not go near a
keyboard when tired.
Back to the immigration issue
As an immigrant I can see where every body is coming from. here are some
thoughts:
1. Being born here to illegal parents should not make you an automatic
citizen.
2. English should be learned. The ballot should be in English. If you
can't read the local paper and get a sense of what is going on, you have
no business voting. On the other hand I don't mind having the driving
test in other languages. I would rather have the person behind the wheel
competent licensed and insured.
3. Eventually when we say "no more room at the inn", who is going to pick
the grapes and clean the toilets.
4. It's not that they are doing jobs Americans don't want, it's that
Americans don't want the jobs at those wages. Hey, at 40,000 a year I'll
go pick peaches.
5. Read the Grapes Of Wrath. The same things happened to the Okies. So
it's really not an immigration issue as much as it is as issue that has
to deal with labor, wages, class, greed, racism, classism, unions, and
tolerance.
6. You say tall fence, I say tall ladder. Save your money.
7. It's like drugs, if the market was not there, drugs would no be coming
across the border.
