Capitalism supposes that people only labor for personal profit, or self-gain.

Communism supposes that people would labor to better humanity with no
concern for their own profit.

Which one is "correct" aside, which one holds a lesser view of human nature?

[Platt]
Which one holds a lesser view of human nature, paternalistic control
or individual freedom?

If there was no self-gain, how would individuals express their "individual
freedom"? According to capitalism, without the carrot of "money", people
would not work at all. According to Marxist theory, individuals would
express their "individual freedom" by working to better humanity, not
simply themselves. That Marxism was never able to be successfully
implemented on a large scale proves the point. Capitalism's assessment that
people are lazy and stupid unless motivated by the self-interest
of "wealth and money" seems to be true, at least in an SOMist world.
