Hello dmb,

dmb said: "See, the problem with an historical
interpretation is not just that there is then only
one, unique son of God..."

Jewish Encyclopedia: "Sons of God" and
"children of God" are applied also to Israel as a
people (comp. Ex. iv. 22 and Hos. xi. 1) and to all
members of the human race."

Prof.M.M.Ninan: "Those "in Christ" having the
"new nature" which is by the direct creation of God (2
Cor. 5.17; Eph. 2.l0) can be, and are called "sons of
God" John 1.13; 1 John 3.1 Mat 5:9 Rom 8:14-15, 19 Gal
3: 26 You are all sons of God through faith in Christ
Jesus."

Further more, G-d in the Bible consistently is
the Father and people are the sons. (G-d in the
Jewish tradition also has a female aspect known as
Wisdom. So G-d is not just this male quality, but has
female quality, too.) Son of God is not some out of
this world label. It is just to express that people
were born from somewhere and in the Jewish mythos this
birth is from not themselves, but is attributed to
something else given a name called G-d. Just as my
father and mother are in relation as my parents and I
did not give birth to myself. Son of G-d was a common
term used for and by many people during the time Jesus
walked the earth.
Christianity has broke so far away from the
original mythos that sometimes I think Christians
don't realize that Jesus was a Jew. That Jesus
followed a worldview that was Jewish. The Christian
mythos has changed and Incorporated many varieties of
traditions and sometimes this has changed the meaning
of the original mythos the Christian tradition tries
to say, but does not follow completely in
understanding.

Thanks,
SA
