That's not what I meant.

Years back in a small town i heard a person talking with the beer
delivery in front of a new store. the question was if they are selling
more beers that there is a new store in town. The answer was no. Newer
stores make it more convenient but no more beer will be sold.

No one is saying that profit is not good. No one is saying that
capitalism is not good. My complaint was about the government subsidies,
welfare and interventions that create super monopolies. Yes the market is
based on supply and demand, and there are laws against price fixing.

Lets say you own a gas station, a delivery was made a few days back and
you have your price set for $3 a gallon.
the station across the street gets a fresh deliver, prices are higher and
he has to sell it for $4 a gallon.
Do you raise your prices. ???????????????
By the way when you get your next delivery, it has to go to $4 a gallon
to maintain the same profit margin as you have done before.
