Ant,
That was a well-written excerpt by Tressell. However, it was a caricature of real economics & did nothing to show that "money is the cause of poverty". For one thing, the role of money was irrelevant to the story. Money is just a means of storing value to facilitate exchange. But the main problem with the story was that the generalizations were inaccurate. Few capitalists are idle & few workers work for mere subsistence.
The real cause of poverty is over-population. Poverty can best be avoided by keeping the number of people who cannot support themselves to a minimum.
