Hey! I'm a big Kurzweil fan, and I've always been pretty interested in
transhumanist ideas.
I read an interesting article a while ago about how an AI might emerge, as
oppose to be created. It seems a few AI researchers have put their money on
the internet as an emergent intelligence. One of the big problems with AI on
a computer, is that the computer can go down, and usually loses vast amounts
of information when it does. Whereas the internet has been running 24/7 for
decades now! It's extremely unlikely it can ever be shutdown, creatin an
excellent distributed system for an intelligence to reside upon.
The second thing of note is the new shift towards internet software. People
like Google and wikipedia are teaching the internet about relational
information. Telling it what something is, and everything it's related to.
And Microsoft is hoping to do the same for images very shortly. Essentially
we're teaching the internet about the world as we load with information and
software with which to sort that information.
It's an interesting idea.
