What historical belief?

I don't know. To coin a phrase, there are more things in heaven and 
earth than can be explained by a materialistic, cause & effect 
philosophy. I believe, however, that Pirsig is right in saying of DQ:
"It contains no pattern of fixed rewards and punishments. Its only 
perceived good is freedom and its only perceived evil is static quality 
itself-any pattern of one-sided fixed values that tries to contain and 
kill the ongoing free force of life." As far as I know, Pirsig never 
tried to explain how DQ got that way.

When will we have the privilege of reading a summary of your basic 
beliefs?
