[Case to SA]
You say you got time to listen to bugs and gaze at the stars.
Get a life, man.
Get a life.

Last year on a motorcycle trip to the Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, we
stopped at a little Swiss-themed motel at the intersection of 28/118, by Lower
Paudash Lake. As we sat outside and drank Molsen in oil-sized cans, I was
struck by the fact that not only could one SEE the Milky Way, but it as bright
and vibrant as appears in Discovery Magazine photo-spreads. We sat outside
nearly all night, looking at a night sky like we had never seen. If THIS was
what people were used to seeing before cities, and radio towers, and cellphones
and all the electrical interference that makes the typical night sky for most a
collection of many a hundred or so stars, no wonder people no longer look up.
North of here, close to the PA/NY state line, there is a night-observatory field
at Cherry Spings. Supposedly it is one of the best places to see stars on the
Eastern coast (http://www.upstateastro.org/stars/cssp.html). Although vivid,
and a place I frequent, it still can't compare to Paudash Lake (maybe it was
all the Molsens).
My point?... Er, don't really have one. But Case, forget the report, the chips
for football can wait. And the oil in your car will seem less important if you
find a good night spot and watch the stars for a bit. Oh, and take some
Molsen...
