David M said to dmb:
Some interesting points. But what would a society controlled by intellect
look like compared to now?

dmb says:
Imagine what the USA might look like if the President DIDN'T count Jesus as
his favorite philosopher or anger the scientific community or use bogus
information and fear-mongering to start an unnecessary war or defy the
international community or pull out of international anti-pollution treaties
or defy the Geneva conventions or the Bill of Rights or the system of checks
and balances. Imagine what the USA would look like if the President weren't
an anti-intellectual disaster on legs.

See, its not about trying to create a utopia for bookworms so much as
avoiding some pretty horrible stuff. On top of the American blood and the
billions and billions of dollars wasted, the estimate for Iraqi dead is now
well over 600,000. This goes way past bad policy or mere stupidity. This is
some kind of evil.

By the way, that figure is 20 times higher than Pentagon estimates allowed.
(30,000) Think about that. That's not double or triple or even tens times
more than their "official" numbers. They were off by 2000%. That's like
guessing that New York city is 150 miles from San Francisco or that the moon
is 12,000 miles away from Earth! The sheer scope of this discrepancy would
be hilarious if we weren't talking about corpses.

I hope an intellectually guided society would NOT look like this one. You
know, just for a start.

Thanks,
dmb
