That's not what I got out Pirsig's explanation of evolution. Behind it all is
the "thrust" if you will towards betterness that "emergence" does not convey.

DQ provides a "why" to emergences "how". But don't think of DQ as providing a
either a linear or a predivined path to "us".

And the fact remains that the animal is a pattern that emerges from the
collective activity of cells. No single cell sat around and "invented" the
animal. No "God" sat around and invented animals by putting cells together.
Those cells acted naturally, in response to DQ, and from their collective
activity a greater organism emegered, the animal.
