Indeed, I have spent to morning ignoring guests and avoiding good tidings of
cheer in a valiant effort to piss off dmb. The varlet has now announced his
intention mug Santa for his list of naughty girls. Good luck, Dave!

I think I am becoming something of a rarity in that I have an extensive
network of extended family to deal with during the holiday. We meet at
various times throughout days of Christmas in a host of ritual settings from
singing of carols to drinking of spiked eggnog and smoking of expensive
cigars. (Different sides of the family...) We even have a new addition who
has introduced the ritual of burning Hanukah candle and awaiting a miracle. 

Last night I was sitting on a couch with a brother and he mentioned some old
family photos where three of our great-uncles were captured sitting on a
couch. He wondered if we looked like the same guys. I pointed to a trio of
nephews and noted, yea and in time so with they. Generational iteration:
what a concept. I guess you see it most during the holidays, if you are
lucky enough to have a family and to have one that has not been smeared
across a continent like so much genetic jelly.

So off I go to watch the Ghost's of Christmas play. They wag their fingers
and poke each other, sometimes in reverence sometimes to pick at old wounds.
Ah, the dynamic play of static patterns biological and social. I think it is
time to box up the intellectual SQ for a day or so.
