Khaled:
Before i go any further let me get your answer to a couple of questions.
A guy calls the financial talk show on the radio and explains how his
mother, till recently ( 2003-2004) was still leasing her telephone from
the phone company. Remember, until ma bell was broken up, you couldn't go
buy an off the shelf phone. The guy had figured that his mom had paid
nearly $4,000 for her phone. yes the phone company did send letters out
in the early 80s informing people of their options to return the phones
or go down to their local electronic store and buy a phone out right. The
sad part is that when he called the phone company to cancel the lease,
the operator tried to talk him out of it.
Legally the phone company had done no wrong. But after 20 years of
renting a phone, wouldn't you think that the phone company should have
canceled such programs. And just let those who still had a ma bell phone
( especially the elderly) just have those phones. Do you see something
wrong with that picture?
