I'm pleased that you've decided to wade into my thesis, and gratified that
it is helpful in your understanding. However, I hope you haven't mistaken
it for a history of philosophical thought. I'm certainly not a historian,
and there are huge gaps in its coverage of philosophical history. The
references I've made to ideas and personages throughout the treatise are
entirely self-serving in that they represent what I consider to be either
supportive of my philosophy or, in some cases, antithetical to it. Some
MoQers have complained that I've misconstrued the "real meaning" of certain
quoted statements, which is quite possible, considering the scarcity of
material dealing specifically with the issues I've raised.
I haven't read Thomas Kuhn, although the name has come up in connection with
Karl Popper and other contemporary philosophers. My understanding is that
Kuhn was a physicist with a primary interest in the evolution of science, as
opposed to philosophy per se. He appears to be best known for introducing
the concept of the "paradigm shift" in scientific ideas.
Since Platt, among others, has found the language of my thesis "difficult",
I should point out that there is a complete Glossary at the end of this long
web page in which I define all the terms as I've used them in the thesis.
(I relied heavily on Dagobert Runes' "Dictionary of Philosophy", IMO one of
the best references out there, for general definitions.) In addtion, I've
recently archived some related essays on the "Values in the Balance" page
which might shed more light on the philosophy. In particular, I would
recommend "The Right Stuff for a Non-dual Reality" and "Subjectivity and the
Autonomy of Freedom" as starters.
I'll be disappointed if you don't come up with a bunch of questions before
you've finished digesting this material. This is the kind of feedback I
need to determine what has to be explained more clearly. (Maybe I should
also try meditation :-)
Good luck, and let me know when you run into a roadblock.
Essentially yours,
Ham
