Welcome Margaret!!!
Yeah, I heard about the exhibit in the Natural
History Museum in New York City that started right
before A.D. 1900, I think. That was such a
disgraceful act.
Hopefully there was context to what you said and
quoted as follows: "John Cage (conceptual musical
artist) said: 'Value judgments are destructive to our
proper business, which is curiosity and awareness." I
do know that Dr. Feynman, who worked on making the
atom bomb, admitted that what was a curiosity of
science needed a restraint in time, which luckily or
by logic, the Cold War held in restraint to any more
atom bombs going off in populated regions. Einstein,
who was an advocate for imagination, saw this bombing
making as something to head off at the pass. I really
don't think Cages' curiosity and awareness means to
make a different kind of bomb, which would be in line
with what you as well would agree with. Curiosity
with restraint - the old idea of balance. If, I am
putting words in Cage's mouth or your's, then please
feel free to correct me, and I apologize for doing so.
Again - Welcome! As many others have said in MOQ, the
more people, the better.
