DM: That is Scott's v iew. I think that the idea of DQ bringing about the 
achievement
of the levels via value based activity does imply this, Pirsig simply choses 
not to talk
about this in terms of 'intelligence'. DQ is offering something between 
intelligent design
(too deterministic) and evolution by random mutation & selection (limited to 
life and not
very convincing in terms of creating enough useful variety to select from).
