Hello Marsha,
I suppose I side with Sam in that I too am a practicing Christian. But I
like your suggestion to stick with what the MOQ would say.
That's an interesting comment by Pirsig and an interesting observation
on your part; that moq.org is a group that understands the Metaphysics
of Quality. Both lead to more questions than answers, in my opinion.
I've read ZMM three times and Lila twice; once each in the past year.
And I've participated in several conversations on the MOQ_focus side of
this domain, which is to say I have a sense of what people are saying
and where people are coming from, including myself. It is through these
conversations that I have come to see that the Metaphysics of Quality
is silent on several things that most people consider to be vital to what
it means to be human; faith, hope and love.
I believe I understand what the Metaphysics of Quality is, according to
the Metaphysics of Quality. I believe the MOQ would say the MOQ is a
static pattern of intellectual quality, or values. And as a static pattern of
values there would be objective evidence of its existence. But that
presents a problem if the objective evidence is taken to be the content of
ZMM + Lila + moq.org. That is, the content of moq.org is not static. It
is extremely dynamic. And as best I can see it continues to evolve.
So what is the the Metaphysics of Quality? Is it what Pirsig says it is in
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Lila? Or is it what is
delineated in Pirsig's two books plus what the group at moq.org says it
is?
Kevin
