cheers ian.
where were all the philosophers in that poll?
liked lynn margulis - we are bacteria, and the guy who
said that science is another religion.
SOM is obviously still dominating academically.
actually i have been thinking a bit lately about uni,
cos i am going back in a month to finish my philosophy
masters off. i think it will get to the stage that
university's general adherence to a basically
nihilistic materialism will simply become absurd.
i spend a lot of time in byron bay region which is a
bit of an evolutionary hotspot. down there you
literally have a different reality: one that concords
with the MOQ, and of course buddhism, taoism, paganism
etc. in short this reality is obviously superior
because the people that live it are freer and happier
than the one's that still live in SOM. i guess the MOQ
is an intellectual bridge that SOMists can use to
cross to this 'promised land'.
this juxtaposition is quite surreal sometimes. i was
at the woodford folk festival last week, for a week.
it was amazing as usual: 135000 people and no aggro at
all. and all in 38 degree heat! the vibe is higher,
more peaceful. that is literally it: the vibe. i left
there for the middle of brisbane for a new years party
and ran smack into the 'scene': a totally different
vibe: insecurity, vanity, pretension etc. so weird
after being in a totally relaxed atmos. i think this
is sorta the same thing: the vibe of uni is still so
uptight. and it will start to look silly and quite
plainly empirically 'wrong', as more and more folks
find higher intellectual value outside the hallowed
halls; more and more life, peace, contentment, joy,
health etc.
and of course when something looks absurd it loses all
its power; when something is challenged or fought it
is only actually reinforced, validated.
so here's to an absurd few years as we witness the
hilarious transition of uni, and society itself, from
uptight, can't dance, whinging-know-it-alls to free
and easy, playful, wonder-eyed children of the
universe.... baby.
