[MD] Where have all the values gone?

All I meant by that was that it was lower quality...and yes that would degrade
it in my opinion. Second the lopsideness before was that it was too much
private sphere activity and now the lopsideness is about intimate conversation
which would be further evidence that is degrading the conversations.

[Arlo]
I'm sorry you see "chit chat" as lower quality than "intimate" conversation.
It's not.

Erin: That's your opinion. If you find more value in one, it has higher quality. If you find just as much quality in talking about what I got at the grocery store than a deeper conversation (e.g) that is fine but I don't.
Every conversation isn't equal Arlo...and if I look at my conversations the ones I value most weren't chit-chats so there is nothing wrong with judging them as higher quality.

Yes agree, the castle of solitude isn't so haunting.

[Arlo]
When one never leaves, the castle becomes a self-imposed prison. Again, those
"moral pilgrims" of Platt's certainly had homes (castles of private-space
solitude), but they did not flood the moats, raise the drawbridge and lock
themselves within.

[Erin]
alrighty I guess your talking to your imaginary audience again...won't bother to answer to that

[Arlo]
I'm not sure how my point above (that privacy is good until it becomes a
self-imposed prison) is missed, or directed towards an "imaginary audience".

ERIN: Nobody ever said they shouldn't leave the castle....its just more of your fending off statements that were never made. I wondered why you consitently keep on doing it and the only thing I could think of it because it is easier for you to respond to this static, pre-concieved arguments you have in your head than sticking to what the person you are talking to says.

ARLO:Erin, I've ignored your condescending remarks to date, assuming you must be simply a very angry person.

ERIN: It's funny you don't see how arrogant and angry, especially when you are preaching to your imaginary audience.

ARLO: I realize, too, that the identity you present on
the forum is of the emotionally driven and anti-intellectual Lila to the
smokestack intellectuals, and I do see value in that, really. So, I'll cede.
You win. You shot me down. Lila 1, Smokestack 0.

ERIN: More crap by somebody that can only boost his ideas by attacking the person. Conversation isn't a point-scoring game to me.

ARLO: Notice how Platt had been increasinly reluctant in a previous thread to even consider that our culture should promote anything other than "wealth" as a motivator of activity.

  [Arlo]
In Platt's most recent post he says, "Without profits there's little incentive
to produce."

ERIN: Well first I would distinguish business and culture. Maybe your quickness to equate them is by your Marxist attitude of "money is the measure of man". I find Platt talks a lot about this thing about beauty. It's you Arlo who seems so obsessed with money, money, money which is why you want to turn everything into conversations about it.

ARLO: But why bother? Being a
contrarian to any real dialogue is much easier than actually trying to
formulate coherent thoughts. Lila 2, Smokestack 0.

ERIN: everything is a game to you isn't it Arlo...the same Mr. Independent who doesn't know why OTHERS have to make it about "My team" and "Your team". Sometimes its funny you don't see how hypocritical, arrogant, and obnoxious you are and sometimes...its not so funny.
