Matt P, I'm with Matt K on this.

A lively mailing list should be nurtured as the wondrous living thing
that it is, and allowed to simply evolve in its own way. Any
alternative means of exchanging ideas should be in addition, not as a
replacement or a constraint.

There are / have been a number of alternatives suggested and even
attempted. They either get rejected as still born, or die through lack
of ... well, life, like the Wiki and MF etc.

If you want to experience more intelligent considered essay style
contributions and critiques, then you might want to try the comment
facilities on the blogs of Matt K and Paul T.

If you prefer incoherent one-liners of doubtful relevance you might try mine :-)

Technology-wise, I'd support moving MoQ-Discuss to a "board" format
that supports both mailing-list and on-line forum options, so that
people can choose their preferred way of interacting - that might be
near invisible change for those who prefer the mail-exploder style. As
Matt K says, that's Horse's call.

Anything else over and above that, just do it and see if it flies.
Ian
