Hi Folks
Just a few words re: traffic on the list etc.
If you are going away for a period of time and don't want to have masses
of posts to come back to then visit your member page and set the 'Mail
Delivery' option (the one at the top of the list of options) to
'Disabled'. This stops mail coming through without unsubscribing you
from the list. When you come back from wherever you were, change the
setting to 'Enabled'. You'll then start receiving posts again. I haven't
tried it but I'm assured that it works!
Get hold of one of the many free email tools that provide topic/message
threading. Mozilla Thunderbird is good at this - or, if you're
desperate, try MS Outlook which also does a pretty good job. (Ich! I
can't believe I said that!) I use both of the above and Pegasus Mail as
well for historical reasons. When you thread posts you can dip into the
ones that appeal by heading.
Personally I'm very glad that this forum is as lively and dynamic as it
is, considering that it's been going for nigh on 8 years now. With
around 40 thousand posts the archive(s) are overflowing with MoQ goodness.
I did say a while back that I would try and get a bulletin board style
system up and running but there are only so many hours in the day and I
have a hundred and one things I have to do both on and off line. I have
to prioritize and so far the BB is a ways down on the list. I can't say
when I'll get it sorted but I will try as soon as I get sufficient time.
I may need a few volunteers though.
Finally, there is supposed to be a limit of 4 posts a day on MD but as
with most rules they tend to be ignored unless I'm constantly smacking
wrists and admonishing evil-doers. And quite frankly, I can't be arsed!
For my money, the rules are there so that I can jump up and down on
people who piss me off so they only get hauled out on odd occasions when
I'm in a bad mood or if I think there is danger approaching (Will
Robinson).
So don't forget to make use of the facilities on your personal member
page and rejoice in the fact that we have a lively and dynamic community
in which we can discuss the MoQ (without adverts of any form or other
such dross) for bugger all in the way of fee's or other remuneration.
This is the golden age - enjoy it while it lasts!
