[MD] sideways drifting

Greetings,

I have lately been trying on different world-view images (or targets).

I've also been thinking about a phrase I hear often from the
Administration and Congress: this or that is 'in our best
interest'. Or, this or that country is not acting 'in our best
interest'. (Who is this 'our' they are referring to? - don't
answer.) And then there is the 'protect our borders'
campaign. Although I lean towards the liberal point-of-view, I admit
I have written my Senators and Representative asking that they uphold
our laws and protect our borders.

But, something new has been gestating. What if I reconsider our
'borders' and 'our best interest'. I do this all the time when
painting. The edges (borders) of something can be sharp, blurred or
obliterated into the background. As the painter, it's my choice. So
what if I define 'our best interest' and 'protect our borders' from a
line around the U.S., to the image of the planet taken from the
space. Then there are no borders and 'our best interest' becomes the
Earth (and all upon it) and it's atmosphere.

Marsha
