Arlo, et al,
I agree and cannot reccomend Hofstadter's GEB highly enough either.
(People should also recognise the Esher link with Pirsig's
contribution to Eintsein Meets Magritte.)
My use of expressions like "strange loopy world" comes from GEB (and
also Minds I - Doug Hofstadter co-edited with Dan Dennett - from which
I recommend Non Serviam by Stanislaw Lem too.)
