Understanding the mechanisms by which something works, and the thing itself
works are two very different things! And you can't Really say that
scientists even understanding the mechanisms. They're pretty sure they do,
but they hardly have 100% success with Any theory. Even the vaunted theory
of gravity doesn't work on subatomic scales. As much as scientists know,
there's always more to know. As sure as they are that one theory is True,
there's always some troubling exceptions they sort of sweep under the
carpet.

Even in the case of selective breeding, they can do amazing things, but not
everything. Sure they can breed a dog to look any way you like at this
point, and breed out the best traits. Of course purebreds often have weak
immune systems and suffer from a lot of physical and mental problems.

Now whether this is because the True theories about the Objectif world you
seem to posit are simply not yet known, but waiting out there to be found,
is an interesting question. It also strikes me as Extremely SOM and not at
all MOQish. I think maybe the theories are incomplete because inorganic and
biological patterns are still evolving, still moving towards DQ. Theories
are generally good static intellectual patterns, but they're hardly
complete. Convenient, not True.
