Was that before or after Pirsig?
What specifically do you dislike, I find Merleau-Ponty
one of the better writers and probably clearer thinkers.
It would be nice to see some down to earth phenomenological
writing in a more carefully argued analytic style, perhaps more
to do with the daily social world and less about great dramatic
historical sweeps. For some historical context I think the biography
on Heidegger called between good & evil is great, Rorty recommends
it on the jacket too, so that's a good name for you. Of course, Critchley
is using phenomenology in a broad sense to refer to all
Continental Phil. Certainly Rorty sees the need to have a foot in both
camps, and so do I.
