Balance is not just a 50/50 equation that remains static.   You can have 
imbalances in certain levels of the heirarchy, but these imbalances are 
necessary to have balance.

Yes. That is why I prefer harmony. Balance seems to imply equal. This works
sometimes as in: "All things being equal" This only works is if mean more
factors as known, stable, predictable. Harmony blurs the edge of equality
and adds an esthetic quality. The Way means the proper path or in my view
the path that continues for Castaneda it is the Path with a Heat.

an example(just bear with me)  :  In star wars, the "good" jedi knights 
prevailed and ruled in a manner of speaking, for some few thousand years.  
all was well.  Then as we've seen in the movies, the "dark side" prevailed 
and the good were all but eliminated.  Then in the end, the good prevails 
again.

[Case]
The notion of oscillation between poles is attractive but chaotic systems
can have more than two stabile states, known as strange attractors. These
stabile states are areas where prediction is better. They are well...
static. But probabilities are fuzzy around the edges and there is no
certainty that a system of flux will remain the same or that it. Take a
system like the Samurai of Japan, or the Sioux in middle America, or the
Druids of Europe or the Gnostics of the middle east.

This constant flux seeming imbalance, is actually balanced.  Its like a 
teeter-totter.  each side is up , then down, sometimes for different lengths

of times, and at different heights.

The Chinese say it is a curse to live in times of transition. And as Platt
is fond of pointing out some there are some really unpleasant form of
stability.

The world we live in now, is as balanced as it was 2000 years ago.  Its just

that now our intellectual grades are higher on average(intellectual level), 
as well as long life , modernism (social level),  etc.

[Case}
I think we just live longer but have more to learn. One scary source of
instability these days is the constant inflow of new information and
cultural change drive by technology. To the usual silicon and gene splicing
I would add PsychoTech, (advertising and communications)

however, the other side of the teeter totter (biological level) is on its 
way back up .  Every natural ecosystem on earth is in a state of decline, 
and is causing chaos in the weather (inorganic level)

[Case]
If you consider societies as organisms you might judge them in the same way
you would judge a biological species; by how long is has survived. In this
area the Jews have no peer. They have left an unbroken cultural history that
extends back to the Sumerians. The only cultures that compete with them in
shear longevity are the Early Egyptians and the Chinese, perhaps the Hindus.
They have survived the onslaught and absorbed a chuck of nearly every empire
that ever ruled the western world. There are Jews and crypto-Jews scattered
from China to Mesoamerica.

How can you account for this kind of survival of an social organism. The
Jews are not noted for their emphasis on individual freedom. But they are
known for taking care of the family and dedication to improvement of the
next generation. They are also know for not taking themselves too seriously.

God calls them a stiff necked people but they have rolled with the punches.

In closing:  Balance does not mean that things are static, and going to stay

that way.  its the ying and the yang (x2)

Just a reminder that order is not distinct from chaos it is just a part of
it.
