Guess I should say hi to the group as this is my first post. I have been
reading the discussions for about a week and certainly enjoyed the debates.

Good hard hitting point. I don't think anyone would deny having your leg
sawed into while being wide awake would be an experience of low quality,
just like Pirsig's remarks on the hot stove. But then would this type of
thing be the daily experience of someone in a more primitive society? I
think you have to look at the different levels of quality and compare them
for modern and primitive man. Perhaps the classic koan applies to this
situation also:
Master Joshu, Does modern life have more quality then primitive life?
