[MD] How is atheism a religion?

It still doesn't make sense.  If I deny the existence of unicorns, 
how does that become a system.  I've heard it stated enough to be 
want to know what kind of convoluted logic is behind it.  But thanks 
for trying.

[Case]
I will take a crack at it: the obvious answer is that it is a belief about
God. In this case the belief that there isn't one. Not all religions are
theistic; Buddhism for example. It has been said that science is a form of
secular religion and it doesn't even have theism tacked on the end. 

I would not classify science this way personally, because science has the
quality of falsifiablity attached to it. Most religions are not falsifiable.
I would like to think that atheism is also falsifiable but perhaps I give
atheists credit for having more sense than they actually have.
