Platt and Gene,
Platt: "No. We agree that an idea(s) cannot be
separated from an individual(s)."
Gene: "You know Platt, we often call
individuals, a collective. or group."
Platt: "What's your point?"
Gene, are you saying this as follows:
E=mc2, where Einstein needed somebody to figure
out E is energy and what energy is, somebody came up
with =, mass, speed of light, and what squared is.
Einstein, without any of these previous giants, would
not have been able to even think about E=mc2.
Einstein (1) depends on the collective, and (2) is an
original thinker by putting the puzzle together that
others defined already. It is a collective effort,
and within a scientific society the motivation is set
for individuals to even have the time to put puzzles
together as this equation Einstein came up with.
Einstein, even with this glimmer of originality,
discussed with others to bounce ideas off of - a
scientific community. As I've said before you put an
Einstein in the Amazon rainforest and he might say
E=mc2 and the locals will say take this bow, hunt, and
eat something. The cultural discussion continues....
