Inasmuch as all difference starts with a separation of unity, duality may be
considered the first order of differentiation. That anyone can question the
empirical fact that existential reality is differentiated is astonishing to
me. Almost as astonishing, and metaphysically unsound, is the dismissal of
subjective awareness as the primary "interpreter" of reality.

DM: So there is a unity before any differentiation, Pirsig calls this
quality,
therefore the individual must only appearonce some differentiation occurs
regarding what is one's body and activity and what is world and others,
so that means we only get self-awareness as an individual after
differentiation,
but we need to see what lies before this as quality. You seem to want to
say being an individual is the original unity, if it is the same thing as
Quality,
that is OK, but why on earth would we want to call it something that is
clearly only conceivable along way down the line in terms of self-awareness.
Sure Quality is a whole-unity and is a singularity in some sense.
