Arlo,
Yeah, I read your statement and clarification on
inheritance in a latter post after I first saw it in
an earlier post. I notice your position and your
pointing out of class, wealth and power is where your
really trying to pull the focus, not inheritance. I
see our agreement.
Yes, class, marked by wealth, increases any
power, which is gained with use and thus, the wealthy
may realize their influence. This link merges with my
linking this culture has defined upon its' own or
exists within that we can say is true. My link or
perspective is this cultures identification of freedom
with consumerism. This now placed with your linkage
of the power of the wealthy adds motivation to what I
am perceiving. The wealthy need freedom and
consumerism to merge. The wealthy with their power
provide actual (not literal currently) steam to the
merge of freedom with consumerism. Like any existence
and real stamp in culture, culture needs human
elements to exist. Thus, culture needs motivation.
Who dictates this kind of scale motivation? The
powerful and in a culture that collectively consumes
the fire is stoked and the wealthy feed the fire with
things to buy to further motivate an existence of a
culture that consumes. It is a feedback system. Are
we to stop buying to gain my control in what we find
to be more valuable? This might be a question to
ponder and all implications that relate to such a
question.
Arlo you also said: "Which also ties into the
psychological void that people try to fill through
consumption."
Psychological void. Why such a void exists? Is
it because other people say we have such a void and
need it filled, but certain people are saying what to
fill the void with namely material goods, thus, we as
a society are also filled with what ideas will fill
this void, and therefore those ideas and materials
become what we call culture and in this case the U.S.
culture? I know Platt might say we are free to do
what we want that's what good about the U.S. Yet,
what is free has merged with given meanings such as to
be free is to consume, but anyways. So an exercise in
our own intellect, as Joseph brought up at one time
with his example of buying health or was it life
insurance, well you see my point. We need to use our
own minds. We see and experience what is happening,
and I think we do get to this moment at times, but
what actions, what wisdom do we have? This is where
patience, encouragement, and continual social support
in the passing of knowledge helps free-up our own
intellect and quality time well spent.
