Hi Heather,

What you said about hidden agendas and nose snubbing are good examples of
why religious people are ultimately not to be trusted; a more extreme
example is the muslim unobtrusively walking into a tube station with
explosive under his coat; in London there was someone in recent years who
walked into a gay pub with explosive too - that was not religiously
motivated but in both cases their unfair actions where due to their
unreasoning beliefs.

I did say '...ultimately not to be trusted'; my Nigerian friend is a very
devout Christian and with his belief in the good I would trust him in many
ordinary matters, but there would come a point where his conditioning could
kick in and he would not behave in a fair way. For instance, I asked him
what if a person behaves impeccably but does not believe that Jesus Christ
was the son of God - he answered that person will not get into heaven. He
frequently attempts to convert me because he thinks that since I have no God
that I have no moral yardstick - that is a kind of prejudice. If someone
doesn't trust you then you better not trust them either.

I find it difficult to think of some concrete examples in this Heather but I
stick by what I said.

Regards

Peter
