Hi dmb,

" I ate 9 hits of acid and mistook one of my own body parts for a worm. "
Do we want to ask what part of your body that was? ;-)

In the San Francisco area it is possible to have "guides" ( medical doctors and or other phd's ) fix you a drink and "be with you" for a journey to self discovery. LSD is not the only vehicle used for ones journey which might last for days....it's comforting to start such a trip not worrying about a 50 min session or how you're going to get home. i've been on group trips, family trips, and sole trips where the guide is present for support and assistance the whole way. On occasion ( as in The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge by Carlos Castaneda's ) an "ally" might appear.

The importance of having a guide to assist you on your journey makes the experience a lot different than dropping acid at a Pink Floyd or Grateful Dead concert. Even if you've triped a hundred times before i'd recommend trying it with a guide. Having measured amounts of any number of specific herbs often used for centuries by tribes in spiritual cermeonies was/is a powerful experience that is near impossible to put into words. Each herb has it's own unique properties and powers.
You may have only been five yo old in 67 but as some might say: you're an old soul. <g>
