I'm not sure if this statement is offered as support for my contention that
human beings must be responsible for their own survival, but I suspect that
it is not.
The point I was trying to make to Arlo was that the survival of animals
depends largely on their natural (biological) instincts, whereas man is
equipped with intellectual faculties that enable him to choose his options.
Thus, to live as a leach on the charity of others is a choice that makes an
individual a victim of society, demeaning his innate intelligence and value
sensibility. By encouraging dependence on public welfare and egalitarian
policies, we victimize the underclass and penalize the wealth producers.
This ideology eventually leads to a bankrupt nation without the means to
defend itself.
