In ZMM Pirsig explains how when sir Isaac Newton tried to quantify and
define change at a zero moment in time, he found all previous forms of
math inadequate. Algebra, geometry, trigonometry, hence the invention of
calculus.

In todays complex world, we tend to only see the tip of the iceberg. We
see the Band-Aid solution and not the problem. We see the electrical
socket in the wall, but fail to see that wire going all the way back to
the generating factory with the huge smokestack. we see it on the
political in the lack of in depth analysis of any problem the government
is trying to solve.

I was having a discussion once, and we were going to where, a third
person interjected and asked us to take the other person's point of view
and argue for that cause. Look for the good in their point of view and
see if it is valid and if you can make yourself see it and maybe believe
it.

Sometimes we argue over terminology. One person says something weighs one
ounce, while the other swears up and down that it's 28 grams.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Using Photo voltaic solar panels is a great idea. Byproduct of
manufacturing solar panels is a bad idea.

It's like carrying a ladder, a really long ladder. Situation awayness
become paramount. Which route, where have you been, and where are you
going?
Your thinking changes than just walking without that ladder. Now you are
dealing with reality in the fourth dimension.

And that's the level to which we need to elevate our thinking too.

It's like asking a person what's the shortest distance between the US and
Russia? Well the Bering straight is only 55 miles across. Havana to
Florida is 112 miles. yet our perception of danger is not proportional to
the distance.

I called it spherical thinking because we have been conditioned to look
at a flat map of the world, and we tend to solve our problems the same
way. Sometimes the solution to a problem is two steps back, but we have
been told to think forward. Sometimes it's above us, or to the sides.

I don't know if there is such a universal formula to solve for X. Maybe
start by writing down the X and the Anti X. and the solution would stare
you in the face. It's like looking for a particular coin: Remember it has
two faces.
