Hi Peter;
Religion teaches biological constraint in order to realize the benefits
derived from collectivization.
Society "constrains" biology for biology's own good.
Historically, the teaching of God and "The Law" was a two pronged approach
to a singular problem, seeking a singular result.
If one understood, for instance, the harm that stealing did to the victim,
(the law), he would not steal, having inculcated successfully "the law" in
his "heart" so to speak. To those others, not able to understand the harm
theft caused, the fear of God stood as a great warning to them. Eventually,
it was believed, God would exact payment for such evil and destroy the
thief.
Pragmatically speaking, whichever method works is good.
Personally, my sense of God does not weaken me but conversely affords me
greater freedom.
Death is truly the great constrainer of us all. My religion frees me from
that.
