Marsha,

My question to you about contemplation for politicians did have Socrates 
advice "know thyself" behind it.  Hence, the reference to SA who seemed to 
have got to know himself (a whole lot better anyway) by going in the woods 
for a year or so.  Unfortunately, Twain and Bill Hicks both mentioned that 
the  people who want power are the ones who shouldn't be allowed it so I 
can't see the present incumbents taking such an opportunity.

I do also realise that if Bush and Blair, for instance, went in the woods 
for a few months to "find themselves" there would be a chance they'd be 
eaten by bears but I'm sure that's a risk most of the general world 
population would be happy for the "Dynamic duo" to take.  So a win-win 
situation either way!

I would tend to agree with this if only because modern religious training 
has so much static intellectual and social baggage already with it even 
before you start.  Maybe Sam can throw more light on this subject?
