Scott, dmb, Peter, and all,

Scott, I really don't mean to jump into this
discussion between dmb and yourself. I really would
like to hear dmb comments on these most current
postings, but I think this is interesting and
commented as well. If I am overstepping any
boundaries, my apology, and I'll just lurk on some of
these comments in this subject.

Scott, why are you seemingly against the idea of
values in the inorganic level? What are values? What
does the concept 'value' mean to you or anybody? Why
might cause and effect be something more pertinent to
understanding the inorganic level, than value? What
is the concept of cause and effect?
I do know cause and effect does not always work,
and to know the difference between a cause and effect
in a more precise manner takes the use of statistics
and probability. Thus, to know if A is the cause of
B, rather than vice versa, it takes statistical
equations and analysis (on a computer would be the
easiest route) to come up with something like A is
probably 80% the cause of B, thus, there is a 20%
chance that B is the cause of A. It comes down to
statistics and probability most of the time, and the
more data to feed the calculation the more precise the
understanding of what is the cause and what is the
effect, is known. Yet, when you get into more complex
systems of analysis, well, the causes and effects get
really bogged down, especially since there are No
closed systems, thus, any cause has one or more causes
of it, and thus, the effect may lead into a cause of
the original cause of that same effect and Wow! it
just gets very complicated and sometimes misleading.
As to what I think value is... Are they
connections between say, A and B that bypasses that A
and B are in some kind of unreal closed system? I
think so, but I am not sure.
