SA:
This just shows how much of our lives are
weighed by economics. Ethics, family values, trout
streams (buying a license), tourism, etc... are
linked, pulled and pushed by this force in monetary
cultures.
M:
I just had a conversation with a friend who said something
about being afraid of 'investing' too much time in a
relationship...(because of not knowing if she
could afford to risk too much of herself if it wasn't
going to work out for some fixed period of time she had
in her mind as being worth the investment) - like a house
or a car or something...I asked her, 'why are you
using fiscal terms to describe a human relationship'
isn’t it enough that someone wants to relate to you
intimately for ANY length of time...
I don't think quality in relationships can be quantified
and it seems many people do this - I think it's exactly
what you are describing SA; capitalism pervades every
area of our life.
Not a new concept, I know, but I for one was glad to
read what you wrote SA; not sure how this is going
to change in our culture - but I do know A LOT of
people younger than I am (I'm 42) who are very
disturbed by the culture of capitalism who rebel
against it and that's promising. A DQ trend perhaps...
