Hello all,

Arlo said: "This is why those arguing against
this statement also rage against anything that
challenges "social superiority". This is why the
"poor" are always described as lazy, slothful, inept,
stupid, evil little subhumans. Wealth is a measure of
social status."

The focus of any one person or society (the
giant) is also named value. The general world exists
and science may find out these neat things, but soon
the time comes - how will you make $? Oh, that
question creeps into the lives of all children in this
culture. Go and find the $.
Focus in our lives upon trees are not the neat
things they do or how beautiful they might be, or even
how it feels or the sense of quality we might have in
association with such branching trunks of wood. They
become Leopolds well texted $ values and the focus is
not on what we might be aware of. Oh, no sir'e.
The focus is strengthened by the actions we take.
Our focus upon anything just in our heads is always
supported by the paths we walk. We lay roads to get
there. We clear away everything in our path to reach
the distance. We leave our families and neighbors
behind, kill off the world at large for the green
paper stamped valuable. The value is enlarged by the
desires fulfilled. It seems as if our hearts are
contented by $, until we need that next pay check. Do
whatever you can to get it or else you'll go to prison
or you'll end up on the streets starving for not just
the moments where the wife and kids are playing
happily, but also for the $ that will get those things
you need, like food, unless you can hide out in the
woods somewhere. Rats in the city I would imagine are
grimmy and oozing with dirt. Go for the clean ones
where the trees are if you like 'em that much.
Get the $... tap... Go get the $... rat-a-tat-tat...
get the $... tap... go get the $... ba-ba-ba...
roooom... tat-a-tat-tat... get the $... go get the
$... tap-tap-a-tap.... get the $... go get the $...
ra-da-da-daaaaaaaaaaaaa

Arlo continued: "Consumption is an expression of
that status. And any challenge to those who've built
the New Aristocracy upon these foundations are
threatened by ANY mention whatsoever of "social
equality". This is why "ownership" is dialectically
paired with "freedom", even though to the Indian, such
a pairing was antonymous not synonymous."

This was an old question that I first had last
spring in the politic and social philosophy course I
took in which we had journal entries to hand in. I
was wondering when did freedom become latched onto
capitalism as the defining definition for what a free
country should have. Freedom to hunt and fish from
the free world of woods no longer was suited by some
as really being free - those that do such things as a
society are really poor and lazy, as the narrow valued
individual locked and shut out from the larger world
would say. If it sings record and sell it, even if it
is just a bird, come on now you gotta think about
these kinda things... get the $... go get the $...

Arlo quotes Pirsig: "You want to know how to
paint a perfect painting? It's easy. Make yourself
perfect and then just paint naturally."

Archery, sitting, fishing, cuddling with your
loved one, etc... You want to know how to do such
that has been mentioned... do and then perfect as you
are now involved and the event is within your reach of
performance. Know and doing - wisdom, natural wisdom!
Aware of ones ritual is wisdom. Getting the $,
as I was singing sarcastically above, is a ritual
performed by many in this culture. I sign the back of
my paychecks to 'get the $'. Yet, each time I do
something that doesn't 'get the $' like writing on the
MOQ.org, walking in the woods, fishin, cuddling with
my wife, petting my dog, I sink into the larger world
where the value of $ disappears and the lives of many
and much larger rituals of seasons and relationships
rest and move in a home as large as it is. You go
look and know for yourself. Peer into the night sky
and see the stars. How big do you think this world is
that is way outside of that narrow focus that this
culture has?
