Margaret:

I'm reluctant to call myself an artist. I paint watercolors,
mostly landscapes. Strictly amature though I've sold a few.
Out of the several hundred paintings I've done in the past 
10 years, only one stops some people in their tracks for a
moment and gives them an instant of DQ. At least that's
how in my egotistical state I read their reaction. All the
other efforts are worth that one moment. One critic
said the painting presented "an awful stillness." I took
that as a compliment. In any case, it sounds like what
you are doing with your sketching group is great fun.
And your advice is good. I should probably stop trying to
be another Rembrandt and just have fun.
