Actually I was responding in my comment to a Pirsig quotation Arlo had cited 
on the "Intellectual activity" thread. This was probably the first time I 
had understood the conversation enough to be able to contribute. I have read 
the threads you've mentioned and have found them rather hard to follow. 
There's a lot of unspoken background with the participants, but I will try 
again.

Also, just a procedural question. Is the way to participate, to reply to the 
email you receive by putting your comment on the top? Should you delete the 
rest of the thread (on the email)? I've never done it this way. Also, do you 
need to identify yourself at the beginning of the comment. I see it is done 
several ways and I'm not sure if that is the commentor's responsibility.
