Hello David

Well put. And you are right on the money.

The main failure here is to realize that any ideology has to be dynamic
to cope with modernity.

As i stated a year or two back, an example from where grew up the first
15 years of my life.

Beirut was considered the tourist haven and the gateway to the middle
east. With the arrival of the western tourist, the Muslim restaurant
owner was left in a quandary, how to keep his faith and religion and
still sell liquor to the western tourist.

Well religion would not yield.

Solution?

Throw religion out of the window, and sell Johny Walker till the sun
comes up.

Unfortunately these were not "worldly/educated/intellectual" people. With
faith gone, so was spirituality and moral compass. Hence a 15 year civil
war. (yes there were other factors too)

Had religion yielded and said to that restaurant owner " Hey, as long as
you are not drinking that stuff, you are OK to sell it to whoever wants
it ( within the law) yet still do you 5 daily prayers, your fasting and
your pilgrimage and you are OK."

Dynamic values is the key word

Just a thought.

Khaled
